Admissions Requirements and Procedures
- Completed application package.
- You must choose a Major Department, Biology
and Biochemistry or Chemistry.
- ******THE APPLICANT MUST WRITE "CHEMICAL BIOLOGY PROGRAM"
ON THEIR APPLICATIONS IN ORDER TO BE CONSIDERED FOR ADMISSION INTO THIS
PROGRAM.******
- Applicants MUST also, before application for admission, contact one
of the Program Directors about their intention to be considered for the
Chemical Biology program!
- Resume/curriculum vitae showing all educational and research experience.
- Three signed original letters of recommendation on letterhead from faculty
who know the applicant well.
- A 1-2 page personal statement describing the applicant’s background, including
their motivation for the desired field of study, and including any relevant
information that the applicant wishes to make available to the Admissions/Advisory
Committee. The personal statement must also include a statement of research
interests, identifying specific areas of research and specific faculty with
whom they would like to work. Applicants are strongly encouraged to
contact in advance the Program faculty in whom they are interested to explore
the feasibility of carrying out interdisciplinary graduate research with that
faculty member.
- The applicant must choose a Home Department, from among the participating
Departments, through which they will earn a degree at the University of Houston.
- Students admitted into a regular Departmental Degree Program cannot
transfer into the CBIP Program. They may, if desired, apply for admission
to the CBIP Program at the next annual admission cycle, but will be ineligible
for the Graduate Assistantship described in Section A3. Students accepted
to the CBIP Program, however, may transfer into a Departmental Degree Program
at the discretion of the Department.
